This is the Trust’s most recent initiative; the focus of the project is working on a catchment scale restoration from the source of the Wharfe near Oughtershaw down past Grassington. Funded by the Environment Agency, the objective is to try and improve failing water bodies under the Water Framework Directive (WFD).

There are many reasons why certain reaches of this watercourse do not achieve ‘good ecological’ status under the WFD, including temperature, diffuse agricultural pollution, enhanced fine sediment delivery and disconnected spawning streams.

The aim of the project is to work with farmers, landowners, the local community, angling groups and other interested parties to tackle some of these issues and try to improve the conditions within the Upper Wharfe Catchment.
