The River Skell is one of the main tributaries of the Ure.

The National Trust are concerned about flooding at their World Heritage Site at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, as it is becoming more frequent and having a deleterious effect on the site. They are starting to work in partnership with Nidderdale AONB and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust through the  Dales to Vale Rivers Network, to look in more detail at the catchment. Partners will be looking at ways of improving habitats and reducing erosion by working with farmers and landowners in the catchment.
