Middle & Lower Ure Catchment

The catchment area is primarily rural & agricultural, except for the spa town of Harrogate and its neighbour Knaresborough. The Nidd catchment starts at the village of Birstwith, flowing downstream through Killinghall, skirting the northern edge of Harrogate and through Knaresborough. The river then meanders through rural areas and villages until it reaches its confluence with the river Ouse, at the village of Nun Monkton. The catchment lies within the Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ), includes Aubert Ings SSSI, a Drinking Water Protected Area (DrWPA) and parts are included within a safeguard zone to protect the downstream drinking water abstractions.
